Sunday Scoops: 10 Ingenious Ideas!

Posted on Updated on

My mom and I love easy home solutions and these are some of the great ones that she recently sent to me.

I had to share!  Thanks Mom! 🙂

Do you have any great home remedies or ingenious ideas?

Please share in the comments below! As always…thanks for reading! ~Lisa

Add half a teaspoon of baking soda to the water when hard-boiling eggs
to make the shells incredibly easy to peel off.

To tell if eggs are fresh, immerse them in a bowl of water.
Fresh eggs will lie on the bottom, while stale eggs will float to the surface.
Keep brown sugar soft by storing with a couple of marshmallows.
Use a rubber band to rescue a stripped screw.
Use chalk to remove grease stains from clothes.
Simply rub white chalk on the affected area and wash as normal
– the chalk will absorb the grease and be washed away in the cycle.
Use rubber bands to help open a jar easily:
place one around the jar lid and another around the middle of the glass.
The rubber provides friction to prevent your hands from slipping.
To sharpen scissors, simply cut through sandpaper.
Prevent soil from escaping through the holes in the base
of flowerpots by lining with large coffee filters.
Use ice-cubes to lift out indentations made by furniture on your carpets.
To clean a wooden chopping board, sprinkle on a handful of Kosher salt
and rub with half a lemon.
Rinse with clean water and dry to ensure it is clean and germ-free.

So I was just peeling one of the Easter eggs that we dyed this morning and the shell wouldn’t come off. I am going to try the baking soda idea to save my sanity. We have a dozen eggs that are going to go in the trash after Easter. Also going to try the rubber band for a stripped screw. This could be life changing!

The baking soda in the water worked great! Absolutely, stripped screws drive me nuts so I was super stoked to learn that one. Happy Easter! 🙂

The rubber band screw driver and the chalk ones are my favorite. Good to know. The one thing I know that seems to not be very well known is to mix a little baking soda with a bit of water to make a paste to put on bee stings. It takes the pain away instantly!
